This piece was a collage of sorts. The objects featured in the picture could be in or around the art studio. The piece of focus is a tree which can be seen from the windows of the art studio. Along with a couple of pieces that were in the still-life from class. Materials used for the piece were conte crayons (red, black, and white), charcoal, and the permanent marker.  One of the things I like about this piece would have to be the use of light and dark value throughout the piece. The white border brings the focus into the picture along with the use of the lighter value as if light were shining from the lamps. The contrast of light and dark in the picture make a good composition, however the tree does draw a lot of focus to the center of the picture. This is also in part due to the lighter values surrounding the tree as well. I did not add the bisecting stick that would have broken up the focus of the tree. If I had done so with a red conte crayon it would have broken the focus of the tree a little, while also drawing the eye somewhere else along the picture. While I feel the tree is the focus of the piece, there are also smaller details such as the lamp pole and extension cord shown in the lower right-hand corner that I’m rather proud of.  Overall this piece is not horrible, yet it could have been better.
